Hello and welcome!
My name is Crystal Davis, and I am a self-taught paper mosaic artist based in Washington State. I began my artistic journey in 2004, during high school, when I experimented using magazine clippings as a medium. With the high cost of traditional art supplies, I began cutting out solid colors from magazines, which led to the development of my unique style.
Growing up in a small town in Washington, surrounded by nature and wildlife, I developed a deep appreciation for the world around me. The proximity to the natural landscape, paired with my experiences living near Seattle, exposed me to a vibrant diversity of cultures and ideas. This exposure fueled my curiosity about the world, and in 2008, I took my first solo backpacking trip. Since then, I've traveled to over 30 countries, most of them solo, which has shaped my work and worldview. Through my travels, I’ve come to appreciate the interconnectedness of humanity, nature, and culture, all of which influence the themes of my art.
In my work, I celebrate the beauty of life's simple joys—particularly the animals and flowers that embody resilience, innocence, and wonder. Through the intricate process of paper mosaics, I aim to capture the essence of these subjects, reminding viewers of the importance of small moments and the universal lessons that animals offer. My empowerment pieces reflect our shared humanity, promoting unity and connection. Ultimately, my art speaks to the idea that we all belong, and that we are each a unique piece in the greater mosaic of the world.
“We are each a unique piece in the mosaic of the world”
